Sade Pind Rab Wasda – The Show Format

Sade Pind Rabb Wasda Punjabi TV ShowSade Pind Rabb Vasda is the show which is keeping me on the heels these days. This show is telecasted on ETC Punjabi every Sunday at 8:00 PM and then is repeated throughout the week. The concept of the show is about visiting various villages of Punjab and provide the information about them in an entertaining way. I personally wanted it to be closer to have a documentary feel, but the channel thought it would be better to keep it commercial and open ended for the larger good.

The show’s format is simple. First we visit the village, talk about it’s importance. Now we don’t go to every village at random, oon the contrary these villages have to have some importance. For instance some villages might have religious importance, others might have economical, while others may have historical background attached to them. So in the beginning we discuss the importance of the village. Next we meet someone from the village who can tell us about the history of the village, or the relative important facts about the village. It’s always intriguing to find how all these villages were named as such. Next I go for a “geddi” of the village in which I roam around the streets of the village.

In the next section we get to take the real feel of a village’s “roti” and the pure home cooked meal of Punjab. This house can be anyone who wants to volunteer as we just go and eat whatever is there in any way they want it. This part is the most fun and we had many leisured afternoons in a number of villages.

In the third and last section we get to see some local village talent or what the village people do for fun. Sometimes its kabaddi or cricket, or at times its volleyball or just plain “Taash”. We have come across some really good talents, for instance Pawan Kumar kaile, who has his name is Guinness Book Of Records for his reversible jackets. Then there have been Gatka, Stunt bikers, Bhand, singing talent and instrumentals. And with that the show ends.

So every week you see me going to a different village, talk about it, dig out its History, visit religious places in there, have lunch with someone at the village and finally get to see the village entertainment aspects. Hopefully you people have the same amount of fun that we have shooting it.

    Dear Mr Sandhu

I think you should do more research on the villages before going there, a good anchor should always have his facts clear. Regarding the village Pahuwind, it has religious as well as historical importance….I will come back to this later. First of all the man who said he is the Sarpanch is not the sarpanch it’s his wife who is….sharam aundi honi aa ohnu ehe dasdean…bloody MCP ,,,from Historical point of view…General Gulab Singh Pahuwindia was from this village who was General in Maharaja Ranjit Singhs Army…u could have shown his house and his tomb…..Little googling can always help…

This link can always help you to know about the historical families of the villages u visit in future..
    Goodluck

Your comment itself is the answer to your question. If the Sarpanch himself would not admit that he is not the Sarpanch, and the people we meet in the village wont tell us, than how will we know?

We try to find all the facts about the villages all the time. We knew about the General Gulab Singh and we wanted to cover it, but the villagers told us that its not important and no one knows the whole truth and that there is no location related to Gulab Singh that we could shoot. What were we supposed to do then? And another funny thing… the lunch section in Pahuwind.. it wasnthome cooked food. We caught the Halwai leaving Sarpanch’s house and our crew knew from the taste thats its not home cooked food… people try to trick us, but we ignore them.. play along with their games.

You are talking about history… At Mirakot the person at Gurudwara said that both Sukha Singh and Mehtab Singh were from Mirakot. I knew the fact that Sukha Singh was actually from Mari Kamboke. I asked the camera to stop rolling and confronted him, he said “Ki farak penda ji…” but we are to show this show on TV, how can we change the historical facts?

Its not just Pahuwind.. we face these issues in 60% of the villages we shoot. I can narrate a lot of stories.. but my focus is not to bad mouth the villagers.. we show the best we can in the best possible way. And as for websites, there is a lot of misinformation lying around. For instance we are going to Talwan in district Jalandhar, this week to shoot and this village is near to Noor Mehal… this is the village where Bibi Dep Kaur ji belonged to. And look at this webste: http://www.sikhlionz.com/bibideepkaurji.htm It says :

“Three miles from the road leading to Anandpur Sahib in Hoshiarpur District, is a village, named Talban. Bibi Deep Kaur, the subject of our story, was resident of this village. There was only one Sikh house in this village — Bibi Deep Kaur’s residence.”

The truth is that there is no village by the name Talban in Punjab in Hoshiarpur district. The village is Talwan in Jalandhar District and is no way close to Anandpur Sahib. There you go… the only source of information that we really rely upon is the residents of the village… if they decide to lie about facts, we can do nothing. The tragedy is that all blame falls upon me for being the anchor of the show. And that’s exactly why we have started showing the Disclaimer in the beginning of the show stating that Anchor or the channel aren’t responsible for the facts shown in the show and these are the facts told to us by the residents of the villages.
