On his birthday ie; 6th of January this year, Diljit Dosanjh started “Saanjh Foundation” which is a N.G.O (Non Government Organization) for needy children and old aged people. This seems quite a nice gesture from his side and goes well with the thought that those who are well provided should do the right thing for the people.
We thought it would be nice to probe into the details of this venture and hence, here are some thoughts of Diljit Dosanjh regarding this N.G.O.
Q. What is the reason for starting Saanjh Foundation?
A. I’ve always wanted to do such a thing, I mean something on a proper scale and with proper means. Though on personal level we all do what we can. But, I wanted to create a platform where likeminded people can get together and do the right things. As it was the beginning of the new year and it was a nice day for me, I thought why not do it.
Q. Yes, a Birthday seems a nice choice. So are you alone in this mission?
A. No. There are a number of friends of mine from Canada who are accompanying me on this. They’ve always said that whenever I start this NGO they’ll always be there for me. So, with their help and courage, Saanjh is here today. I really wish to thank them all.
Q. So this has been in plans for sometime, but what are your immediate plans? How is this going to work?
A. It’s quite simple really. We’ve provided the helpline number where people who need help can call. Most important aspect is that we will try to fund this on our own as far as possible. So we will judge the need of the person contacting us and evaluate what we can contribute. After receiving the call our team will personally visit the place and check out the requirements that need to be fulfilled. We’ll try our best to do everything we can by ourselves. But, if at any point we feel that we need some kind of external help only then we’ll go out and ask. The good thing is that we have already received a few calls and we are working on it.
Q. But is this targeted at a specific region like Punjab or throughout India?
A. It’s open for everyone and not specifically Punjab. Our motive is to do whatever we can in every possible way. I don’t want to restrict the foundations as everyone have needs.
Q. That’s a bigger scope there, so why name Saanjh?
A. We actually worked a lot on this and we wanted to have a meaningful name. All of us kept thinking for a name and we did this for a number of days until Anurag Bhaji came up with this name. Everybody liked the name as it has warmth and depicts our vision to do something good together. So, it stuck with us.
Q. You mentioned that you have already received calls. Can you elaborate on that?
A. It’s not much but yes the first steps have been taken. Through Saanjh we have opened 21 FDs for 21 girls which we will openly announce on the 11th of January on the occasion of Lodhi-Mela in Ludhiana. Kuldeep Bhaji (Diljit Bai’s P.A) is also looking into the requirements of Old Age Home which is being set up in Bathinda. This is what we have done so far. But I’m very happy that finally it’s taking shape.
And this was all that we had time for to chat with him but surely a lot more be revealed on 11th January. We really wish that more and more artists stat doing charity work and start their NGOs or at least become part of such existing establishments.

I wonder why haters don’t have anything to say now. Diljit is highly misjudged person. All the perceptions formed from that one song. Can’t get why that thing remains still fresh in those tiny minds! It really agitates me when I read something against him and the worst part is some where or other I get to read it. If anyone disliking him is reading this, go listen his religious album and then tell me what you gotta say about that? It’s probably one of the best album. If you didn’t noticed, ‘Bebe Nanki da veer’ was sung by Diljit.
