“Once they enter the gates of the court, they are to wear linen vestments, They shall wear linen turban, and linen drawers on their loins.” (Old Testament: Ezekiel 44:18-19) It adorns the head of those who wear it, It’s the epitome of Dignity, Strength and Purity. Turban commonly called as Pagri or Dastar is closely associated with Sikhism and is an important part of the Sikh culture. There were times when turban was falling out, especially in the region of Punjab. Many Sikhs abandoned their turbans to go for the stylish bollywood hairstyles. But the times have changed. Youth today is not after film stars. In fact, our stars follow common people’ style to reach them. We can see that how turbans are seen on our cinema screens now-a-days. Our cinema has this trend now to go in for turbaned and bearded heroes. Bollywood is just trying to cash on the image of a complete Sikh with beard and turban on his head. They are doing it just to earn professional gains.
Actors like Sunny Deol, Amitabh Bachan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Kunal Kapoor and our most dashing Ranbir Kapoor have been seen sporting the turban proudly.
