Bir Khalsa Group Becomes Guinness World Record Holder

Bir Khalsa GroupBir Khalsa Group is an institution associated with Gataka teachings based in the villages around Amritsar. They take in young children and teach them the Punjabi martial art of Gataka. The group is trying to get the children into discipline of Khalsa and save them from the menace of drugs and other follies.

www.punjabiportal.com covered Bir Khalsa Group back in 2010 at village Rajewal. It’s just few days back we came to know that they have become the Guinness World Record holder by entering a contest organised on April 18th 2012 in Rome through a coconut breaking act for which the Bir Khalsa Group is quite known for.

The group consisting of seven members broke 59 coconuts placed on the foreheads of other team members with a baseball bat in one minute thus breaking the previous record in this category of 41 coconuts. Proud members of Bir Khalsa Group are Kanwaljeet Singh (Leader of the group), Gurpreet Singh, Gurinder Singh, Naseeb Singh, Harpreet Singh, Ranjot Singh and Balwant Singh.

They had also taken part in a famous TV show “India’s Got Talent – Season 2″ and were the second runner ups. Their live performance in the show was huge internet phenomenon.
